Residents and workers in Dudley borough can now take part in a consultation on a new strategy for future land use across the borough. The consultation for the Dudley Borough Local Plan launched on 16 July and will close on 10 September.
The new plan will set out a strategy for development in the borough until 2045. It replaces the Dudley Local Plan, which was adopted by Dudley Council on 13 July 2026.
Why a new plan is needed
Since the Dudley Local Plan was created, changes to national planning legislation have meant Dudley Council and other local authorities need to prepare an updated local plan. The Dudley Borough Local Plan will be adopted around April 2029.
What the plan covers
A local plan ensures enough homes are built, supports local jobs and businesses, and helps create strong communities. Every planning application is checked against the local plan, so the decisions made shape the borough's future. The plan sets out where development should and should not happen.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said: "Because every planning application gets checked against the Local Plan, over time those decisions literally shape the whole borough."
