Tickets are selling quickly for a charity boxing event at Dudley Town Hall on 21 August, where Dudley Council leader Councillor Patrick Harley will fight former councillor Shaz Saleem.
The pair will box over eight one-minute rounds in the main event, topping a fight card featuring eight bouts with local boxers from across the borough. Organisers aim to raise £30,000 through the evening.
Councillor Harley said: "It's not every day you see someone pushing 60 stepping through the ropes for a boxing match, but this is all for a fantastic cause. The training has been tough, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and helping put on a great show for everyone who comes along."
Charities and Support
Proceeds will be shared between charities supported by current Mayor Councillor Pete Lowe and former Mayor Councillor Pete Lee. Councillor Lowe's mayoral charities include We Love Carers, Friends of Alfie Johnson, Stourbridge Town FC's Floodlight Appeal, Gig Caritas/Busking for Charity, The What? Centre, Stourbridge Glass Museum and Brierley Hill Baby Bank, among others.
Local businesses backing the event include Brindley Capital and S&R Construction as Platinum sponsors, and Dudley Motors, Thomas Dudley and IPL Schoeller as Gold Sponsors. GMB Union is also providing support.
Tickets
VIP tickets offering ringside seating, food and access to an after-show party at nearby Fun City have proved particularly popular. Tickets are available through Dudley Borough Halls, and organisers are urging anyone planning to attend to book soon due to limited capacity.
